Details
This lovely antique porcelain compote or pedestal cake stand would have been a part of a larger Victorian dessert service. It was made by Pinder, Bourne & Co. between 1862 (when partner Hope left the firm) and 1877 when Henry Doulton of Royal Doulton bought the company out from the remaining partners. The pattern is called, "Tycoon". You usually see this design in brown and white against a white background, as it appears on the bottom of the plate. This piece is very unusual in that the same pattern repeats on the surface of the plate, but this time against a lovely, blue background. We've never seen any Tycoon pieces with the blue. It is marked on inside of the base.
Measurements: Compote / Cake Stand: 9" diameter, 4 1/2" tall
Condition: Very good condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. As with most antique porcelain that is close to 150 years old, there are signs of age and wear. There are small blemishes and crazing in the glaze, but overall this is wonderful example of PB & Co. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing.
