If anyone is near Leslie Michigan, there is a seller on FB Marketplace selling a 55 gal. drum full of braces for $150. Not sure why it showed up on my feed in KY, but thought I would pass it on, might be a money making buy, I would if I was close to it.

Answered my own question :-) about raising the burr on the cabinet scraper: I tried the old Craftsman wood-turning gauge chisel after a rough polishing and got a really nice burr almost instantly. So, since I paid $1.00 USD locally (on the island) for the chisel, I am quite happy.

Oh, the scrapper is an old Starrett. Nice tool.

I live on a small (poor) Caribbean island, so the way things work is different from just heading out to Home Depot, or ordering something from someone. I have two kind of tech questions: 1) I can't really afford much of a cabinet scraper burnishing rod. But I do have two old gauge chisels used for a lathe: A Craftsman "High Speed Steel" and the other a French Goldberg #12. If I polished the round side good, do you all think they would work as a burnisher? If so, should they be highly polished or with scratches like from some grit of sandpaper? I have read these chisels are about 62 on the hardness scale. 2) I just got a lb. of shellac and realized that on the small Caribbean island I live on there is no 100% denatured alcohol, that I can't just order it because it is on the "flammable - prohibited" list, and that rubbing alcohol here is only 70% alcohol. So! Can I use the 70%, or is there something else I can use, I may be able to find I could mix it with? I am using it for handles and rustic furniture.

Rex recommended going to Colonial Homestead in Amish country in Millersburg OH ( 6515 State Route 241 Millersburg, OH 44654 ). I spent 2 hours looking, chatting, and buying. Rex I greatly appreciate the hint. It is worth the drive from Washington State for this.
Washington state! that is a long drive to go to a tool store! Heck, I feel bad now thinking 5.5 hr 1 way from KY was to far LOL

Trey, I finally got out of Vacation Mode - there was a little obscure indicator at the very top of the screen that showed I was in VM - once I clicked that the VM toggle then appears on my Dash Board and I toggled it off. Many thanks. Dave
Sorry for the delayed reply, I’m glad you figured it out! 👍

Click your profile picture. Then select Seller Dashboard.
In the top right corner next to your profile picture you should see a little wallet symbol and $ symbol. Click that to access your wallet. From there you can cash out.

YES! Thanks. Its a start.
Sellers have an option to ship to Canada, and we have an option to ship internationally.
I edited my listings and selected both options so that might be why they show available shipping to you. 🤷♂️

Are there any other Canadians here? Everything I see does not ship to Canada. IS there a way to identify sellers who will ship to Canada (ships t me only works for the US).
I just put up some listings that gave me the option to ship to Canada.
Take a look and see if they are allowing shipment to you. 🇨🇦

I will ship to Canada or any where else in the world as long as the buyer wants to pay the shipping fee, it's expensive from the US to Canada or anywhere else. I guess I need to update my listings..

For a while District would not let us in the US even post shipping to Canada, I think it was some postal strike or something. Everyone else may be like me, just never edited the add, or to lazy to include Canada shipping as it's a bunch more clicks LOL.

try using vinegar to remove the rust, may have to leave it over night. it shouldn't hurt the jappaning unless it's already loose. you might have to take fine steal wool to it so not to scratch anything. Vinegar will turn any bare steal black, so you"ll have to run sand paper over the soul, or just leave it that way and it will wear off during use.
Thanks worked perfectly

I use the computer and can not zoom in to see the white spots, but if it's not paint I would have no idea what it is. Most I get that have spots is paint an dI have no idea how people get paint all over the non painting tools. I't like people in the past never thought to move there stuff before painting....

What TT needs is proper invoices that we can print out and that have all the required information, which I have outlined some weeks ago with no responses. As it is I have to take two screen shots, then add my name and address and a "Paid by Visa ####" with Photoshop, "glue" them together, then resave them, and finally print them out for the darned customs people. Now when I buy something from Taytools or LeeValley, all I have to do is print it out.

I make something similar out of melted beeswax and either boiled linseed oil or food grade mineral oil. Works quite well both on wood and to keep metal from rusting quickly. I just thought of this: has anyone tried waxing hammer (or other blond wooden handles) with brown shoe wax polish, or even black shoe polish on chrome vanadium, which is an exponential rust collector on the subtropical island I live on.

Scam Alert, User with the name Dean (no last name) with a robot for an avatar. Will contact you asking if something is available an if you will ship to his daughter in Michigan, and give you his phone number for you to text him. Upon texting he will ask for your PayPal info and does not read the reply, or it's a bot as I mentioned I do not have paypal, you have to pay through District. Bla Bla Bal then comes the fun part, wanted to send me $1,000 to my PayPal, then I keep 150 and send the rest in cash in a Express Mail Envelope. Yeah Buddy, I will sure jump on that! I reported him to District, blocked him here and his phone number. But I wanted to get the word out so everyone else will know to watch for scams. This is the 1st one I have encountered, but I do not think it will be the last, watch out and be cautious.

The adjusting rod has a notch that sets in the iron, so you could turn it with a pair of plyers. I think using a hammer would not work, unless you took out the adjustment screw. I cannot zoom in the photo on the computer to see if you have the adjustment screw. Irons are more expensive then the plane it's self most of the time. Also you can sometimes find a stripped body on ebay pretty cheap. I would see if I could find a good body with out all the attachments and just take 2 planes to make one complete. As far as the irons, might take a while to find a good deal on them, but you also can make some out of good steel is all you want to do is plow/rabbit with it. The irons are just flat tool steel with a edge on it. And if you use the body you have, you do not have to worry about cutting the notch for the adjustment screw.
I have the adjustment screw. It sends like the only thing I’d that the depth broke off. I like the thought of looking for another to Frankenstein together. Thanks for the input!

I have a question about a 45 I going on FB marketplace. I got home and found out that the knob for raising and lowering the iron has broken off. I don’t this is the worst thing, I can likely adjust depth of cut with a mallet like you would a wooden plane. My question for the hive mind is if there is a better way anyone has seen or has a better idea to make it a bit easier. Overall I’m pretty happy with it and will now have to see about collecting cutters.

Scott, I've always had good luck contacting ebay through chat. To access that, click Help & Contact>Contact Us at the bottom of any ebay page or go here: https://www.ebay.com/help/call_us?type=ContactUs&topicId=4000. From there you can select your topic through a couple of menu choices, then eventually get to a page that has a "Chat with our automated assistant" option on the left hand side of the page. That will open up a chat window and you can begin describing your issue. It should ask you if you want to talk to a customer service rep at some point and then you're with a live person. Sounds like a lot, but it really only takes a couple of minutes to get in contact with someone. There is also an option to have someone call you, which normally happens pretty quickly. That's a super frustrating problem you have, but I hope that helps you get in contact with someone to get it resolved.
So I have tried to appeal my case, but I can not because there is no record in the eBay system that these orders where canceled. I have the message from eBay saying the items where canceled, but no where in the appeal section/option can I find the actual items that was canceled. I do however see items/auction that I never won listed that I can click to appeal?? I still need to try to talk to a real person, I have not done that yet as I have not had time. I can however bid on some items, but not all items listed which has changed from the no bidding at all, I still do not know if I am even going to deal with it when I get the time...

Seems to me that if you have a relationship with this seller that it's time to ditch Ebay and work with him directly. Might save you both money.
That is a good idea I actually did not think about that. So far though they have not responded to my last email asking if they learned anything on how this happen. I did find the appeals part, I just have not done it yet..

Any insight why vintage panel and hand saws of decent quality are so readily available and affordable when tenon saws and back saws are much harder to find
That is a good question that I have also wondered. I assume there where just way more hand/panel saws made then back saws. Although I do see more listed in the UK then in the US on eBay, so maybe they just where not widely used here and people horded the ones that where made...
