Offering a W. Butcher Sheffield 1/4 inch paring mortise chisel made from true Sheffield cast steel. The blade shows the classic Butcher markings, including the arrow stamp and SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. This 1/4" size was a go-to for cabinetmakers and joiners for cleaning mortises, trimming joints, hinge work, and any fine paring in tight spots. It has the thin, tapered paring profile which was never intended for mallet use—this is a hand-pressure tool built for accuracy. The handle is the original turned hardwood with brass ferrule, still tight and comfortable. Blade has normal age patina but no cracks, breaks, or repairs. Specs: Maker: W. With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
