Up for sale is a vintage William Butcher firmer chisel measuring 3/4 inch wide. This is a true Sheffield-made Butcher piece, dating back to the late 1800s. The blade carries the correct Wm. Butcher / Sheffield stamp, and the steel is exactly what Butcher is known for, takes a wicked sharp edge and holds it.
The handle is an old shop-made replacement, solid and tight, with plenty of character. The blade is straight with honest age and use marks, but no abuse. Ready to sharpen and put back to work, or great for a collection of early Sheffield tools. Features: Genuine Wm. With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
