This is a vintage Peck, Stow & Wilcox Co. (PS&W) socket gouge, marked No. 1 EX, measuring about 9 inches overall with roughly a 3.5 to 4 inch blade. Classic early-1900s American steel, good solid user or collector piece.
The gouge has no handle and the cutting edge has wear and will need to be sharpened. The socket is solid with no cracks, and the maker’s stamp is still readable. Surface patina consistent with age.

With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
