Vintage Japanese Socket Chisel (Nomi) – Export Marked “Warranted” –14”

Details

Offered here is a vintage Japanese socket chisel (nomi), likely an oire nomi bench chisel, made for export to Western markets. The chisel measures approximately 10.5 inches 14"overall with the handle. It features traditional laminated construction, with a harder cutting steel forge-welded to a softer iron body, typical of Japanese chisels. The socket is intact and ready to be rehandled. The blade bears Japanese kanji, believed to be a maker or shop mark. Beneath the kanji are faint English letters reading “WARRANTED”, a common marking found on Japanese export tools from the early to mid-20th century. No country of origin is stamped, which is typical for tools of this period. Condition notes: Light surface rust and patina from age and use No visible cracks or breaks Edge appears usable but will benefit from sharpening Stamp is worn but legible with angled light (see photos) This is a solid candidate for rehab,or daily shop use, and also a nice example of early Japanese export woodworking tools. Not a modern reproduction. Please review photos carefully, they are part of the description. Happy to answer reasonable questions. Ships well packed and protected.
