Up for auction is a Victor No 4 size smoothing plane. Victor was a less expensive line of planes made by Stanley for carpenters and homeowners. It features sturdy construction with minor cost-cutting features like a steel adjuster knob, no frog adjustment screw, and beech handles. The Victor line is still high quality by modern standards and these planes are under-appreciated by users and collectors. This plane is in excellent condition. It’s unusually good for a flea-market find and must not have been used much by the original owner. It has nearly all its original finish on both the body and the handles, and very little rust. The blade is full-length. The chip-breaker even has all the original red paint, which is unusual. I have never used this plane, and the buyer should expect to do standard tuning like flattening the sole, mating the chip-breaker, and honing the iron. If this is your first restoration, it should be easy and quick. This is a no-reserve auction and all the profits (after taxes, fees, and shipping) will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
