Up for sale is an original Stanley No. 22 Liberty Bell transitional plane(1876-1895), this early example dates to approximately the mid-1880s. This is a solid, honest example from the prime production period, featuring the desirable Liberty Bell lever cap with “76” casting, good original patina, and a clean V logo iron. The toe is clearly stamped:" “STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO No. 22” “STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO No. 22” Condition: I have sharpened the iron and flattened the sole. Wood body is in good overall condition with typical age and use wear Some checking and wear at the mouth area (see photos) Metal retains original finish with light pitting and patina Liberty Bell casting is strong and well-defined Adjuster functions as it should. Great little smoother ready to go to work for the transtional wood worker. This plane has not been heavily restored or over-cleaned, leaving it with a nice original look that collectors and users both appreciate. With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
