Powr-Kraft No. 84 10" two-jaw brace. Excellent condition,
Powr-Kraft was the "house brand" for Montgomery Ward in the mid-20th Century. This bit is almost identical to the Stanley 823 brace, except for the jaw configuration, and was almost certainly made by Stanley.
This brace is essentially free of rust, with very, very minor and very superficial rust on the plate on the underside of the handle, and a few specks of light rust on the handle. The chuck, jaws and ratcheting mechanisms are all intact, rust-free and operate smoothly. The handles are a dark brown, slightly reddish hardwood of unknown species. There are no cracks or splits in either hardwood handle on the brace.
The chuck is designed to accept tapered square bits (typical auger bits) and round bits up to 1/4" diameter.
The handle is stamped "POWR-KRAFT NO. 84-3606-10 IN". The reverse side of the handle is stamped "MADE IN U.S.A"
Online research indicates that all of Montgomery Ward's braces of this era were made by Stanley.
I'm selling because it's a duplicate of my existing inventory, inherited from my father-in-law, probably purchased in the early 1960s.
Shipping by USPS Ground mail to U.S. buyers ONLY. Asking $15 plus actual shipping cost.
