This is a vintage Stanley #78 which has the blade heavily cambered for scrub work. I converted it based on a recommendation by Paul Sellers that the narrow width of the 78 better matches the size of traditional scrub planes and I have to say he was right, it works great! This thing takes nice deep cuts, is great for quickly trimming down edge grain or traversing board grain when thicknessing.
You could grind the blade back flat or get another blade for normal rabbeting work as well, but it works pretty well as is for doing rough work.
