Stanley #5 Type 17 Plane Smooth Sole War Years(1942-1945) Nice Tuned

$76.00

Details

Up for sale is a really nice Stanley #5 type 17. This plane was made during WWll and had several different changes from earlier models. The brass adj. nut was replaced with a steel or hard rubber nut. The side were also thicker. Some of the lateral adj. lever and blades were a little thinner. Also rosewood was harder to get and many type 17 will have maple or beech wood totes and knob. This plane has the smooth sole and it is flat. I re-Japanned the bed as it was pretty spotty. I have sharpened the iron going through the grits up to 8000. It has the BB logo iron. The tote looks like beechwood and has a the top of the horn shaved off and the knob is in great shape and appears to be rosewood. This plane came with the steel adj. nut, but I have a spare hard rubber adj. nut if the buyer would rather have it.
