Up for sale is a outstanding Stanley #4 type 9 Hand Plane. This one has a smooth bottom. It has the 2 patent dates on the bed behind the frog. It also has 1 patent date on the lateral adj. lever as you will see on a lot of type 9's. The Japannig was very spotty so I stripped it off and re-Japanned it using Stanley's factory recipe and baking it 5 times on low heat to set the Japanning. I have flattened the sole and cleaned up the sides. I have sharpened the iron going through the grits up to 8000. The tote and knob are in perfect shape with no cracks or chips and no major marks. The beautiful dark rosewood tote and know show their original patina.The iron is a Victory made in house by Stanley.

With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
