Stanley Bailey No 4 smoothing plane. Type 17 from the WWII era. Iron has a "442" (Q4 1942) stamp. This was definitely a working plane that saw some neglect in the past. It is now clean, very sharp, bottom flattened, tuned and ready to make great shavings. Hardwood tote and knob were re-finished a deep red. It has brass barrel nuts and a brass depth adjuster. It does not have a frog adjustment screw like many type 17s. This would be a great first smoother.
The tote was one I used on my everyday plane for an over a year. It has a good feel in the hand. Tote is an older style, type 11-ish, and I think it is mahogany. Sole is flat and especially around the mouth and other critical spots. There is some pitting on the sole, mostly on the back third in the middle where it has no functional impact.
See the pictures. The tote did have a clean mid-body break that I repaired. It is basically invisible after the re-finishing and I used this tote a lot and it's very solid. Japanning is okay for an 80 year old plane at around 60%.
Happy to answer questions.

Long time hobby woodworker. Most of that has been as a power tool user but in the last several years I've taken up hand tools and love it. Also found that I really like putting old iron back into service.
