Up for sale is a Stanley #4 type 7 hand plane. I say it is an early type 7 because the "S" factory mark only on the bed, the frog and lever cap just have the nib on them. Also this plane has right hand threads on the brass adj. nut and no bailey info on the inside of the nut. Later type 7 will have the S stamped on the back of the frog and lever cap. It does have the 3 patent dates stamped on the lateral adj. lever. Another reason I think it is early model is it has the Bailey patent info is on the chip breaker. Stanley was known for using up older parts on new models. I have re-Japanned the bed using Stanley's original factory recipe and baked it 5 times on low heat to set the Japanning. I have also sharpened the iron going through the grits up to 8000. I have lapped the sole flat. The rosewood tote and know show their original patina. The tote has a repaired crack and it is a strong repair, won't break there. The knob has a hair line crack that you can't see. The iron has the Q logo and it is 7 1/4" long, hasn't been sharpened much. Very nice early example of the type 7.
