Sargent VBM 408 (Stanley #3 size ish) Parts or restoration, make SCRUB Plane

Sargent VBM #408. What I can tell is the lever cap is from 1910-18 and the iron is 1919-42 based on the stamping. So either this is a late 1918/early1919 or has some mis matched parts. I have not bothered looking at the frog to narrow a date down.
Look at the photos, the mouth looks like it has been modified to accept a thicker iron. if that was not what happen, then I have no idea how the mouth got this way. Either turn this into parts or make a good scrub plane out of it. Or you can buy a $300.00 thick iron for a $30.00 plane, just like the oversized shinny rims thats all the rage with the young kids these days

Retired Archaeologist now working for city of Lexington Engineering Dept. Have been a carpenter and woodworking for some time, just switched over to hand tools several years ago. But now my health has changed, I have no kids and if Gods will, will be retiring and moving to Philippines in the next 5 Years. So I am slowly selling off tools (and other things) that I know I will not be hauling across the world. When the time comes, I may sell off more, but for now all my extras or things I bought to resale need to go....Heck I may just sell it all and not touch a tool again depending on my health in 5 years....
