Up for sale is an outstanding Stanley #4 1/2 hand plane. This one has a smooth sole. It has the Q logo iron and it is 7 3/8" long. I have re-Japanned the bed using Stanley's original factory recipe and baked it 5 times on low heat to set the Japanning. I have sharpened the iron going through the grits up to 8000. I will usually lapp the sole to make it flat, but this one is already flat. The beautiful rosewood tote and knob are crack free and show their original patina. It does have 1 patent date on the lateral adj. lever as you will see on many type 9's. It does have the high arch that is common for the higher numbered planes, 4 1/2, 6,7,and 8's. These old planes don't come much nicer .

With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
