Lot of 4 Shelton Planes, Not Stanley

$38.00

Details

Lot of Shelton Planes #1 Shelton Smoothing Plane, Like Stanley #3. From about the 1930-40's, Had the info wrote down, but cannot find it now. You can look up the Patten number to find out more about this plane. It's a good little plane and I have used it, might need honed now. Adjusting is a little bit of a pain, I did it like a wooden plane, with a tack hammer. Works fine once set up, just takes to long for me as I am not good at hammer adjusting.

#2 Shelton # 18 UNBREAKABLE Low Angle Block Plane Shelton No 18, Like the Stanley 118. This is a low angle block plane, 12 degree from what I can find. This is a steel body and is marketed as indestructible. I can not find much info on Shelton other then it started out as a Basket Company in the early part of the 1900's. The planes iron is marked Patten Pending. The Patten was applied for Nov 9 1944 and was granted July 8 1947. Not sure when they actually started producing these planes, but it is pre 1947 for sure.

#3 (2 of the same plane) Shelton #12 1932-54 Block Plane #1 Shelton #12 Block plane. Both had the end of there iron adjuster broken, but you still can adjust the iron. I believe this is a common issue with these adjusters. Patten # 1914609 in the body.

Shelton made planes from 1932-54 only, there is some history online about the company if you wanted to read about them. Like almost all other plane makers, Stanley bought them out in 1954 and these planes just went away.

Retired Archaeologist now working for city of Lexington Engineering Dept. Have been a carpenter and woodworking for some time, just switched over to hand tools several years ago. But now my health has changed, I have no kids and if Gods will, will be retiring and moving to Philippines in the next 5 Years. So I am slowly selling off tools (and other things) that I know I will not be hauling across the world. When the time comes, I may sell off more, but for now all my extras or things I bought to resale need to go....Heck I may just sell it all and not touch a tool again depending on my health in 5 years....
