German Toothing Plane

$15.00

Details

Selling an old toothing plane.

These are primarily used to prepare surfaces for veneering. the toothed iron creates a surface better for glue adhesion. I have heard from other videos they are also used for working rough grain in combo with a smoothing plane to finish up in order to minimize tare out. I have found that to work, but haven't found that useful. The ECE site says following for their toothing plane: "for „toothing” uneven surfaces and putty spots, it can also be used for „cleaning” wild-grown veneer patterns."

Having trouble sharpening toothed irons? It’s simple: sharpen the bevel like any other plane iron. Then strike the iron vertically into a hardwood block with a wooden mallet, and the burr between the teeth will fly away!

This plane is functional. it does have two cracks on sole... one to left and one to right of mouth. Shouldn't harm performance of plane at all. Photo (3rd) shows.

    Selling since July 2025

American living abroad in Germany. Handtool woodworking became my Covid hobby... and in that way I guess I have "Long COVID" LOL. I blame Rex for this affliction due to his woodworking for humans series (Thank you).

If you purchase from me, be advised that delivery times may be extended. I ship with USPS only. This isn't a business for me. I am generally selling tools that I have duplicates of and want to unload to people interested in them. Where I live, they tend to be European in origin (French, German, etc...).
