This is a vintage D.R. Barton cast-steel paring chisel marked “THE CELEBRATED”, one of the company’s well-known trademarks. Barton made some of the finest American edge tools in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and this one has the classic long blade and tapered socket they were known for. It was hand forged from crucible cast steel, takes and holds a wicked edge Details: Maker: D.R. Barton, Rochester NY Marking: “THE CELEBRATED” (partially worn but readable) Blade width: 1-1/2 inches Blade length (without handle): 12 inches Overall condition: Solid tool with no cracks, chips, or repairs Edge will need sharpening Handle is missing, ready for a new one This is the style used for timber framing, patternmaking, and paring work. Barton chisels don’t turn up every day, and this one has the weight and feel of a real working tool.

With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
