Up for sale is a vintage A. J. Wilkinson Company socket gouge measuring about 8 ¾ inches in overall length with roughly a ⅞ to 1 inch cutting width. Wilkinson was a well-known Boston hardware company that sold high-quality edge tools made by top American makers, and this gouge is a good example of that early 1900s steel.
This one is an out-cannel socket gouge, ideal for carving, shaping, and general woodworking. It has the original Wilkinson stamp on the socket. The edge will need sharpening to your liking, and the tool is being sold without a handle. Condition is used, with normal age wear and light pitting, but the steel is solid and ready for restoration or use. Features • A. J. Wilkinson Co. Boston stamp • Socket gouge, out-cannel • Approx. 8 ¾ inches long • Edge approx. ⅞ to 1 inch wide • Early 1900s era • No handle included
A nice piece for a user or collector of early American woodworking tools.
