Antique EAPG Hartford U-Shaped Pressed Glass Nut Dish by Tarentum Glass Company c1899-1906, Candy Relish Pickle Trinket Jewelry Card Dish 6"

$14.99

Details

The Tarentum Glass Company made this uniquely shaped antique pressed glass dish at the turn of the 19th century. The sweet romantic pattern on this dish is called Hartford, or Heart with Thumbprint. The 6.25' dish is rectangular featuring rolled edges on the long sides and a gold trim around the sawtooth edge.

This pressed glass dish does have marks from the 4-part mold used for manufacturing and has a very nice clear coloring. While it was originally intended as a nut dish, it is very versatile and could be used for many serving purposes in the kitchen or on your table. It is the perfect size to hold business cards or a pair of glasses. The hearts in the glass pattern make it a lovely gift for Valentine's Day, weddings, or any special occasion.

CONDITION: Excellent Antique condition. No chips, cracks, or other damage or repairs noted. The gold trim is quite worn as to be expected for a piece this age.

HISTORY: Tarentum Glass Company was located in Tarentum, PA, and operated from 1894 to 1918. The Tarentum factory was a part of the United States Glass Company, a trust formed from combining 17 glass factories from Pennsylvania to Indiana. Tarentum's most well-known products were its Royal Crystal and Custard glass. The Royal Crystal was a combination of Ruby and Clear glass. Tarentum exported its glass products globally and there is even an unconfirmed report that a shipment of its glass went down on the Lusitania when it was torpedoed in 1915. The factory was destroyed by fire in 1918 and the owners chose not to rebuild.

About me: When I retired from the corporate world in January 2022, I needed something to keep myself busy and active. During Covid, I started vintage glass treasure-hunting as a hobby and loved it so much that it felt natural to expand into a retail shop to share my finds with others. I was inspired by how online shop owners are nationally and internationally disbursed. The buying and selling marketplace here at District is the perfect opportunity to find treasures you wouldn't normally find in your backyard. I named my shop in honor of my beloved late grandmother Della, who was my first mother. I miss you, Grandma!
