Antique Oribe Stoneware set. In excellent condition, no damage. Finely made stoneware, light and carefully crafted and glazed by an Oribe potter in the traditional green, copper and blue.
Part of a tea service made for the export or for a Japanese home serving western-style tea. Japanese were less inclined to make expanded tea set, but sets of teapot, creamer and sugar bowl were not uncommon. This sugar bowl and creamer might have been part of such a set.
Japan, Seto region, Oribe style, 1930s/pre-war. Fine and light-colored stoneware. Covered in translucent glaze with very fine crackle. From the top running down the typical copper and green glaze has been applied, that turns blue along the lower edges of the glaze. Inside whitish translucent glaze.
The bottom is left unglazed.
Sugar bowl measures approx. 7" across handle to handle and stands 3.5" tall. Creamer is 2.5" tall by 4.5" tall.
