Very Rare Antique Minton Dinnerware Japanese Key Pattern 149 Pieces VGAC - Circa: 1868

This is a very rare set of 1868 Minton “Japanese Key” dinnerware. There is no mistake about the name of the design because some records were kept that identify the pattern and date it was made. Records are included in the sale.

The overall condition of this set is very good. Used twice a year since the 1960s it is allegedly one of two sets shipped to the United States in 1868.

There is some documentation written by the family of how the set was distributed and re-joined between the relatives. Most of the original set is in the possession of the current owner and heir. It is not known if she has all of the set or how many pieces were originally owned. There are 16 dinner plates so it was a service for at least 16.

I cannot post a picture of every single piece here. It will take considerable work to do so, but it is possible for a serious buyer. The owner would love to see the set stay together and for someone to enjoy it. She has no heirs.

I did find a ladle that will come with the set, but it is badly damaged, broken and not repaired well. Otherwise there are some chips, crazing, “flea bites” and other — to be expected in a set that is literally 157 years old. Still, I am completely amazed at its condition. This family cared about this set and it shows.

Shipping will be a process. There is about 100 pounds- at least. The lot will be carefully taken to a local shipper to be packaged and delivered to you. Estimating about $1,000 - $1,500 to have the set packed and shipped. We do not know how long it will take the packers, but you will receive several boxes. I would expect a week to complete the process.
