# 3 Size Sargent VBM Type 3 (1910-1918) smoothing plane

Sargent VBM Type 3 (1910-1918) #3 sized smoothing plane that is a little rough and would be a good one to make a small sized scrub plane out of, read below. I thought about keeping this plane since it's a WWI era tool, some reason I like war era tools better, why? no idea. Anyway I am trying not to be a collector, so far I am loosing the battle, so I am selling not only the planes I just end up with, but the ones that I kind of want to keep, keeping the keepers. This plane is a little ruff, see photos, The horn is broken, but still there, tote has been repaired, there is some pitting on the sole and some grinding marks on the mouth. Not sure why anyone was grinding there, plus the chip breaker has some grinding marks too. This plane would be a good one to make a small scrub plane out of, and if it does not sell, that is what I may just do with it, or set it back on the not a collection shelf.

I cleaned it up some, oiled moving parts. You will have to sharpen the iron, flatten the back of the iron and lap the sole if you are into that sort of thing..
