19th century bronze Ashanti (or Asanti) figures goldweight, also know as an Akan goldweight.
The Ashanti Tribe are part of the Akan Tribe of Ghana on the Gold Coast of West Africa. These little figurines were carefully hand made using the lost wax method with bits of bronze, brass or even beads added or taken off to create the correct weight for measuring the weight of gold dust which the tribes traded in. These are probably late 19th century, aged patina. Approximately 2” Weight 3oz
