I love my buttons and it keeps mom close to heart to have them displayed in my home!

Christina, Thank you for posting, I love seeing them displayed and framed. How wonderful and a reminder that I should learn a little more about buttons as they are so varied and beautiful like jewelry 😍💚
I am glad you liked the post! Many collectors have interesting and informative blogs out there where they also sell their buttons, so I didn’t add those links. Button collectors are like grandma librarians who will talk about their buttons and when you think they will give you a cookie, nope, they are reaching for a button tin to show you! 🤣. I am not an expert but information is out there if you look and it informs us about much that can be carried over especially in the vintage jewelry category. I have 8 frames from my mom and 5 are displayed in my foyer. They are beautiful!

MOONGLOW buttons are made with colored satin glass under a layer of clear glass. They disperse light much in the ways star sapphire, cats eye, tiger’s eye or moonstone gem would. They were very popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Most popularly made in West Germany or Czechoslovakia.
Pictured is my “tray” of Moonglow Buttons gifted to me by my late mother. She was known as #TheButtonQueen among her button collector friends. She had over a half million buttons in her collection at one point, was involved in many button clubs, competing and judging at button shows and serving as president of New England Regional Button Association (NERBA).
@borninwrongcentury I finally did a button post!

Another of my mom’s Button Trays. This one is Coated Plastics and Celluloid. She made these trays up for competitions and later framed them to display. Celluloid was the trademark name of the first thermoplastic material, which has become synonymous with its name (think “Kleenex” for tissues). Made in the mid 1800’s to the 1940’s when it was banned in the US because of its highly flammable nature, Celluloid is made of both synthetic and organic (cellulose) materials so is not a true plastic. Bakelite is what some consider to be the first plastic - but it is not thermogenic, meaning once it is molded it cannot be heated again.
Celluloid will smell like camphor when run under warm water. Be careful with antique celluloid because the material does break down over time. Do not store in an airtight container as it needs to “breathe”.
Celluloid was used in compacts and cosmetic cases, jewelry, dresser sets, fasteners, promotional/political pins, buttons and more.

They are framed behind glass so was hard to photograph without reflection.

I’ve never thought to list any old cameras here. But most of what I find are more recent ‘vintage’.
