How did you get started with collecting?

@kannpiper755362 I'd love to see photos of your collection!

I have been a collector my whole life.

They're like a hard plastic, so a little tricky to put together. They are numbered though, so you know when you've found the right piece.

One thing you should know about me is I love puzzles! I generally only have time for Peanuts puzzles. Here's a couple I ordered from Japan recently and built.

Hi, I’m Melissa. I have loved Snoopy my whole life, but I started collecting seriously after the Christmas of 2013. Before that, most of my Peanuts items were Christmas themed, and that year, I was so sad to have to put my collection away that I decided to start looking for non-holiday items. When I first started collecting, I would pick up pretty much anything I found that was decently priced. In the last few years, I have started focusing my collection more because there’s just so much out there.
The main thing I collect is Peanuts books, largely because I have always loved to read and also because I love learning about the history of Peanuts. In the last couple years, I have also started adding non-Peanuts books that are either connected to Peanuts in some way or are about the history of newspaper comic strips. I think it’s quite fascinating how much the strips have changed over the years. When you observe them, there are basically the strips before Peanuts and the strips after Peanuts. It’s amazing how much of an influence Charles Schulz had on comic strip art and the artists who came after him.
The other main thing I collect is Astronaut Snoopy. In July of 2018, someone posted about it being the 49th anniversary of man landing on the moon and that Snoopy was involved. This peaked my interest, so I started researching it. Before that, I never cared about space or NASA or man landing on the moon. But I do care about Snoopy, and I think it’s so fascinating that Snoopy was NASA’s safety mascot. Because of Snoopy, I have learned to appreciate space, and specifically the history of the Space Race. It’s like it makes Snoopy more than just a character in a comic strip—he’s a part of history.
Anyway, that’s a little about my collection. I also was a school secretary from 2015-2022, where I enjoyed making Peanuts bulletin boards in the lobby. I researched each one, and that really taught me a lot about the strip. Then, I went back to school in 2018, and of course each paper I wrote or presentation I did had to have some nod to Peanuts, which was great because I was able to learn even more about Peanuts. For my art class, we had to write a paper about an artist, and Charles Schulz was the only logical choice. I thought I knew about him before I did all that research, but that’s how I learned about how much he changed the comic strip genre. I was thankful to have a small collection of books at the time because they really helped with my research.
I graduated with my bachelor’s in 2022 and am currently working on my CPA. Sadly, there are no research papers with the CPA… However, I believe that having a creative outlet is important, so about a year ago, I started my own page so I could share some of my collection as well as some of the information I have learned. Check it out at fb.com/thebeagleandthebird or @thebeagleandthebird on IG or Threads.

Who has questions for me?

As for what I collect... it's a little of everything! These days I'm always on the lookout for the strange and unusual. I like to find forgotten pieces of Peanuts memorabilia history and find answers to the questions behind obscure pieces.

I started collecting as a bored 10 year old in the 1990s. Over the years, I've accumulated well over 15000 pieces (so please adopt my extras!) My dream is to someday have a larger space dedicated to the collection so I can show off all of it. Plus, since I've been doing video on Youtube and sharing on Instagram, Facebook, etc., it would be wonderful to have a studio space with better lighting to better share these wonderful Peanuts memorabilia pieces.

If you don't know me, I'm Caren, the owner of CollectPeanuts.com. I started the beginnings of the site in 2002. In 2009, I finally could afford my own domain website and CollectPeanuts.com was born. I setup the site to track my collection, sell my extras and writing articles and guides for other collectors based on what I've learned along the way.
