Gorgeous rectangular paper mâché trinket box, handmade, hand-painted cream colored lacquer with exquisite bird design.
Signed Sermel Tonala JAL Mexico.
Sermel paper mâché workshop was founded in 1963 by Sergio Bustamante and Melquiades Preciado in the historic district of Tonala (Jalisco)... the SER-MEL is a combination of their names.
Their work is known around the world for their quality, beauty and whimsy and is very collectible!
Very unusual, hard to find item.
