6.5. 5 inch No chips or cracks Delftware, also known as Delft Blue, is a general term for Dutch tin-glazed earthenware. Most of it is blue and white pottery, and the city of Delft in the Netherlands was the major center of production for centuries. The earliest Delftware was produced around 1600, inspired by Chinese porcelain imported by the Dutch East India Company. Red or Polychrome delft are a rarer find. By the late 17th century, Delft had about 100 pottery factories. While the more elaborate pieces were collected by the wealthy, simpler Delftware became a common household item in the Netherlands and beyond. Delftware continues to be produced today, both in Delft and elsewhere, prized for its decorative qualities and historical significance.
