Details
Michael Harris (1933–1994) was a highly influential English glass artist and a pioneer of the British studio glass movement. He is primarily known for founding two major studio glass companies: Mdina Glass in Malta and Isle of Wight Studio Glass in England. Mdina Glass (Malta) Established: In 1968, Harris co-founded Mdina Glass with Eric Dobson on the island of Malta. The company was an instant success despite Malta's lack of glass-making history. Artistic style: The glass produced here had a distinctive, free-formed style inspired by the colors and textures of the island's sea, earth, and sand. Departure: In 1972, Harris and his wife left Mdina Glass to return to the UK. Isle of Wight Studio Glass (UK) Established: In 1973, Harris and his wife, Elizabeth, founded Isle of Wight Studio Glass. The studio was located in a picturesque setting in St. Lawrence.
