I'm calling this a type 8 because of the B casting marks on the frog and lever cap. The bed has the S casting mark usually found on a type 7. Knowing how Stanley always used up older model parts on newer models I could see how this plane could have come out of the factory like this. Also, could be someone cracked their type 8 bed and just replaced it with the type 7 bed. This plane has the corrugated sole. There is some pitting on the sole from the mouth to the toe. It has the Q logo iron and it is sharp. The blade has some good length left also. The tote has a nicely repaired crack and it is solid. The mouth is good no cracks or alterations.

With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
