Mid to Late 1800's Beading or Molding Plane by Sandusky Tool Co This is a #47 1/4" (quarter inch) beading or molding (depending on what you call it) hand plane made by the Sandusky Tool Co in Ohio. This plane was produced sometime after 1869 and the Sandusky Tool Company changed name in 1926 and was gone by 1929. So I assume this is from between 1869 and maybe 1926 I am not sure.
Wood is in great condition, you can see the dark hand stain from years of use but the wood is in great condition for it's age I think. The iron, well it has seen better days, heavy pitting and a lot of material is now gone.
I did clean the plane and it's parts a little with just 000 steel wool, I have played with the plane some and it will make molding shapes in construction lumber. But I only just played around with it, I never really tried to make actual usable trim/moldings.
This plane came with a group of tools that I wanted a few of, I have no use for this molding plane, I will never use it.
