Artist Identification: Mary Louise Eteeyan (b. 1942) is a full-blooded Native American Indian from the Jemez Pueblo, known for her traditional Jemez style pottery. Pottery Style: She specializes in hand-coiled pottery, including butterfly bowls with lids, wedding vases, and various other shapes. Her work often features precise coiling and meticulously painted designs using naturally derived pigments, combining both stone-polished and matte finishes. Traditional Methods: Eteeyan gathers her own clay, processes it traditionally, and fires her pottery outdoors using natural pigments. Recognition: She has received numerous awards at events such as the New Mexico State Fair and the Gallup Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial.
