Details
Up for auction is a Millers Falls 1321 brace. The brace has a 12” sweep (the diameter of the circle it travels when you turn it). This size is suitable for general shop work and will turn drill-bits larger than an inch. This brace features the original 2-jaw chuck in good condition. This style of chuck is best for square-shank auger bits, but it will also work with hex-shank bits, especially in smaller sizes.
Overall condition is good. The brace works perfectly, turns smoothly, and ratchets in both directions. The metal has minor rust, but the original chrome plating is 85% intact. The wood is slightly rougher and the varnish on the wooden parts is chipped and scratched.
This is the brace I used when I wrote Everyday Woodworking and you can clearly see it in the illustrations from that book. This is a no-reserve auction and all the profits (after taxes, fees, and shipping) will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
