Details
Vinyl plays with crackles and some clicks (play-graded). Cover looks good; a few creases near edges; light-scuffing and surface impressions (front/back); slight discoloration with darker discoloration spots on back. Inner-sleeve is generic white. Spine is mostly readable with wear. Noticeable shelf-wear and splits along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is crisp with signs of use and divots. Red 6-eye label. (Not a cut-out.)
Heavenly by Johnny Mathis, marked his return to recording ballads with orchestral accompaniment. Along with the material that others had covered before are two new songs: the title track and I'll Be Easy to Find. The album spent five weeks at No. 1. Because the UK version of his 1958 LP Good Night, Dear Lord was re-titled Heavenly, Fontana Records issued this album there under a different title, Ride on a Rainbow, which got as high as No. 10 on the UK album chart in February 1960. The US version of Heavenly received Platinum certification for one million in sales. This was the first Mathis LP to have a single released in the US. His cover of Misty peaked at No. 12. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002. This special Grammy Award category was established in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least 25 years old and that have "qualitative or historical significance."
