Most drawknives fall into two basic categories, those that are intended to be used with the bevel facing up and those intended to be used with the bevel facing down. Bevel-up drawknives typically are better for working flat or straight areas, for instance removing bark or chamfering corners. Bevel-down drawknives are more suited to contouring work, like shaping axe handles, curvy table legs, or spoons.
This drawknife has been professionally restored. This treatment includes the following: – Thorough cleaning with a wire wheel. – Replacing and upgrading the damaged original handles. – Expert regrind to the proper geometry. – Honed to a razor edge. – Most importantly, TESTED to ensure good cutting performance, edge retention, and ergonomics.
Replaced, epoxied handles are guaranteed to stay tight for the life of the tool, barring abusive treatment such as impacts.
This drawknife ships razor sharp, ready to work, and includes a reusable plastic edge cover.

I am a full time carver, educator, and tool maker/restorer. I use tools hard, and began making drawknives because of the many design and manufacturing flaws I was constantly dealing with working with vintage ones. In addition to drawknives, I have recently begun making other carving tools including sloyds, hook knives, axes and timber framing chisels.
