'This publication gathers together empirical research, conducted both in the United Kingdom and in China, by the multimedia artist Dinu Li, mediated through his interests in examining the culture and people of a particular place. Proposing "country" as his starting point for an ArtSway Production Residency, he researched the literal meaning of the word in Chinese and discovered distinct but interrelated meanings: "Ancestral Nation", "Family Village" and "Nation Family". It developed into the film work Family Village (2009), the second in a trilogy of works, which pairs the English town of Dorchester with a place called "British Town" in Chengdu, China.' - extracted from Preface.
