Vintage Art Glass Bird - With Canes Red And Blue

See below information I received from a customer of the history of this little bird.

In the 1950s thousands of these little figures were imported into the UK from China - several different kinds of birds, including conjoined lovebirds, chicks, hens, cats, rabbits, elephants, penguins, frogs, monkeys, and tortoises.  Some came in two sizes, approx. 3/4 cms -  6 cms tops. As a young child, a cat was bought from Woolworths for me. It cost a shilling, 5p GB in today's money.  I still have about 70 or so different animals packed away, quite few with the original white oval paper label with "Made in China" printed in dark blue/black (pic - two recent listings with label). In the UK they can still sometimes be found in charity shops and boot sales for 50p to £2. "Murano style" is a good description as they are frequently mistaken for Murano glass because of the millefiori. Another reason for the confusion is that some glass makers on Murano did and still do make clear glass animal figures with millefiori but these, although quite small, are usually twice the size of the Chinese animals and the quality of the millefiori is better. Years back, when visiting Murano, I bought a little millefiori elephant. Placed next to the Chinese animals, it's easy to tell that the Elephant is Murano made. The millefiori is the giveaway. Despite their overall quality, in the Chinese animals the millefiori cane pieces are often cut vertically and instead of producing a multi flower head effect, they look like stripes. Also, the Chinese millefiori always comprises mixes of the same four colours: red, blue, green and yellow, together with black and white. Murano millefiori covers a spectrum of colours, including pastel shades. So, your quality little figure is truly vintage, possibly 65+ years old - hand produced en masse in China.
