Details
This intricately crafted basket is of Native Northeast American Indian Culture. Materials used are from pliable, strong splints (thin layers) carefully separated from the wood of the Black and Brown Ash trees. Key Characteristics: The material itself has an inherent "ash" characteristic to its natural woody scent. The basket colors creates a beautiful contrast of light and dark ash wood. The ash splint basket is made from thin, pliable strips of each wood creating delicate yet strong baskets, sometimes so fine they resemble threads. The culture traditionally pounded ash logs to separate these thin, flexible threads achieving very fine strands for weaving. Its provenance from a Northeast State flea market adds a unique and authentic touch to this collectible item, making it a valuable piece for collectors interested in Native American art and craftsmanship. This basket has been well kept overtime. Please see all pictures for an additional description of this fine basket including measurements. **my listings consist of other Cultural Collections that may possibly interest you.
