Unusual hand-painted Asian theme dresser set depicting a small house on the water with a mountain in the background. Set includes five pieces: tray, two small trinket boxes, a ring holder, and a three piece covered powder box. The center dish on the powder box has a molded hole.

This set came from an estate auction. Dating comes from the estate as being pre-1920's. It is surprisingly sturdy. Designs on each piece are similar, but there are variations in the scenes due to the hand painting process. For example, the mountains on the two small cover dishes are not identical, distinct differences can be clearly seen.

There are manufacturers bumps here and there, a small bite under the edge of the tray, and a small bite on the edge of the handle of the powder box. There is crazing to the undersides, but no crazing on the painted surfaces. The stamp is illegible. There are remnants of gilt edging on all pieces but the gilt edging is predominately gone. The gorgeous black and gray theme is uncommon in dresser sets and even rarer in ceramic sets. Most black sets are lacquer ware with vivid coloring. This beautiful set would fit well in any Asian themed room and in any room with less frilly overtones. The powder box could easily be repurposed to catch pocket ephemera, allowing dust and bits to fall through the hole into the base.

While this set is beautiful enough to use as display only, it is sturdy enough to make daily use of as well.
