Details
4.5” tall no chips or cracks. Ceramic figurines depicting children in prayer, often in a style inspired by the works of Berta Hummel, became popular decorative items in the mid-20th century. These pieces were frequently produced in Japan for export, catering to a market that appreciated sentimental and religious imagery. They were often used as decorative accents in nurseries or as small devotional items in homes.
This particular figurine features a young boy in prayer beside a baby carriage, accompanied by a small dog, all mounted on a black base. The style is characterized by soft colors and a somewhat naive artistic rendering, typical of mass-produced decorative ceramics from the era. The presence of a "Red Letter Japan" mark on similar items confirms their origin and manufacturing period.
