Statue Mayan Inca Aztec Figurine Folkart Acrobat Vessel Terracotta Clay Sculpture. A lovely vintage reproduction of a Tlatilco redware sculpture of an acrobat. Tlatilco was a large pre-Columbian village in the Valley of Mexico.In 1936, in the valley of Mexico, workmen discovered a large number of burials in which were placed delicately modeled figurines, such as this remarkable example. The Mesoamericans were renowned for their elaborate festivals that included musicians, dancers and acrobats. This figure from the Tlatilcans represents a man performing an acrobatic act.Twisting his body into a near perfect circle pose that was designed as a container for liquids. Has been used as a vase. One foot rest comfortably on his head and serves as a handle and the other is a pouring spout. The face on this acrobat is very expressive with a long head, elongated eyes and toothy lips. A beautiful handcrafted replica in good condition About45 years old. Dimensions: 11" high x 8" deep.
