Gay Jensen’s art has been widely exhibited in juried and invitational shows, is in many private collections, and has been honored with awards.
In 1978 Gay began her career as a textile designer and weaver. She taught weaving classes and published articles in major fiber art magazines. Over a decade ago she began painting on her woven fabrics and that was when she discovered what she really wanted to do: make art combining cloth and paint. She soon added collage, quilting and other surface design techniques to her artistic toolbox.
In her current work Gay paints on many types of fabrics, not limiting herself to ones she has woven, though she still weaves the material for pieces needing special textures. She loves the way paint interacts differently with different fabrics. Some ideas are best expressed on shimmering silk, others on old used fabric from discarded clothing, and some require the characteristics of a high tech non-woven material.
