Softcover guidebook to The Cloisters, the medieval branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Fort Tryon Park, New York. Written by curator James J. Rorimer, it explains the founding of The Cloisters and John D. Rockefeller Jr.’s role in creating the museum, then walks the reader through the building, cloisters, gardens, and galleries. Includes sections on the Romanesque Hall, Saint-Guilhem and Cuxa cloisters, chapter house from Pontaut, Unicorn Tapestries, and other highlights. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs, maps, and plans. Copyright 1946; colophon lists later printings through 1949. A nice mid-century museum guide for fans of medieval art, New York City history, or Met Cloisters ephemera.
There is a black "X" drawn on the front cover along with some other moderate cover wear. No rips or tears to pages noted. See pictures for further details on condition.
