1930s Royal Winton Grimwades SUMMERTIME Jam Pot Sugar Bowl with Lid

Details

Royal Winton Grimwades began producing chintz patterns in 1928, and SUMMERTIME made it’s first appearance in 1932, as patterns replicating fabrics of the time were immensely popular.

This Transferware china was very expensive to produce, and was costly at the time. It features a profusion of roses, daisies, violets, harebells and other summer flowers. It has proved so enduring popular that Grimwades issued reproductions in the 1990s.

But this piece is the real deal - the backstamp dates 1928 to late 1940s, though the crazing and condition of this suggests the 1930s. It is one of 4 pieces from a single owner estate, so provenance is sound.

It measures 4” in diameter, 3.25” to top of lid. As with most Royal Winton early chintz patterns, there is some crazing, discolouring, and this piece has a small crack visible only from the interior that will not affect its use or delight. Hand wash only.

Please keep in mind that vintage items are not new items. They are gently used and may show some signs of wear due to being loved and utilized over the years. Any major flaws or defects will always be noted in the description and documented in photos of the item.
