This 1876 pension certificate from the War of 1812 was signed by Charles T. Gorham, the acting Secretary of the Interior. It was issued for Joseph Haller of the North Carolina militia. It is also signed by the acting Commisioner of Pensions but I am unable to figure out who it is. Charles T. Gorham was one of the founders of the Republican party, an anti-slavery activist, and a major general and division commander in the Michigan Militia during the years immediately preceding the American Civil War. A remarkable piece of historical documentation.
Some wear including some staining as shown in the pictures. Some wear along the creases but no rips or tears to the paper outside of the crease wear. See pictures for further details on condition.
