Details
The technique of creating controlled bubble glass, where air bubbles are intentionally trapped within the glass, gained popularity in the mid-20th century. While Murano, Italy is famous for this technique (known as 'Bullicante'), other glassmakers around the world also adopted and adapted it. These pieces often showcase vibrant colors and unique forms, making them attractive decorative items.
Skilled artisans carefully manipulate molten glass to achieve the desired bubble distribution and overall shape. The folded or ruffled edges, as seen in this piece, add an additional layer of artistic complexity, enhancing its visual appeal. Without definitive markings or provenance, it's difficult to attribute it specifically to Murano, but the style is certainly reminiscent of that tradition.
