I've been making jewelry for about 5 years and decided that I am no longer going to buy brand new materials - I will only use up what I have, and will start reusing/repurposing/upcycling pre-owned or found materials. I've been experimenting with pre-owned jewelry lots and finding some great stuff for what I do but happy to sell off the pieces I don't plan on using - plenty of good stuff, just not for me!
