About The Record:

The Studio Recordings: New York 1985, by Vladimir Horowitz, recorded at age 82, showcases the legendary pianist's enduring virtuosity and interpretive depth, featuring works by Schumann, Scarlatti, Liszt, Scriabin, and Schubert. This Deutsche Grammophon release, which won three Grammy Awards (Best Classical Instrumental Solo, Best Engineered Album, Classical, and Classical Album of the Year), captures Horowitz's return to recording after a performance hiatus, reflecting a refined approach with finesse over bravura. Historically significant for its critical acclaim and as a testament to Horowitz's late-career mastery, the album includes standout performances like Schumann’s Kreisleriana and Liszt’s Valse Oubliée No. 1. No tracks from this classical album are classified as hit singles in the popular music sense, as it focuses on solo piano repertoire rather than commercial singles. The album remains a celebrated milestone, with critics noting its emotional depth and technical excellence, cementing Horowitz’s legacy as the “Liszt of our age.”
