Vintage Lusterware Cat Condiment Set | Pearlescent White Kitty Salt and Pepper Shakers with Mustard Pot | 1930s Seisei & Co Made in Japan

This is a vintage condiment set, in the form of some very shiny cats! Made in Japan during the 1930s, for Seisei & Company, these porcelain pretties were given a fancy pearlescent luster glaze, which was all the rage at the time. Each of these kitties is posed with an arched back and their tail up - I can't tell whether they're having an after nap stretch, or practicing a scary crabby pose, but they're arched to the limit! In addition to their iridescent white coats, the hand painted details on their faces have been done in a gorgeous gold gilt, making them extra shiny. The salt and pepper shaker kitties have golden tails as well. The mustard pot's spoon doubles as his tail, and although it not golden, even his spoon-tail has that same pearly white luster! Condition: These kitties are in excellent shape! They have no chips, cracks, repairs, or any other damage that I could find. Their is a little sign of wear to their gold gilding here and there, but none of it is missing, and it's still extremely shiny. I did want to note that the mustard pot's spoon-tail does have manufacturing flaws - there are some rather uneven edges, but apparently that was considered good enough to glaze, fire, and send out as a finished product. I suspect these kitties might have been on the bargain side of pricing back in the day! Both shakers still have their original cork stoppers, but I highly suggest replacing them if you intend to use these at the table, as the cork has started to crumble with age. Size: Each shaker measures 1" across, is just over 2 ½" long, and stands 2 ½" tall. The mustard pot is just a bit bigger, and measures 1 ¼" across, is 2¾" long, and stands 2 ½" tall.
